Description (Please provide a detailed description of the event in the box below)
SGX Group (Singapore Exchange) today reported a resilient performance for August with higher year-on-year (y-o-y) trading activity in securities and FX derivatives.

Securities daily average value (SDAV) rose 35% y-o-y in August to about S$2.2 billion, as total securities market turnover climbed 29% y-o-y to S$43.3 billion. Derivatives traded volume was down 1% y-o-y at 27.1 million contracts, while derivatives daily average volume (DAV) was 2% y-o-y lower at 1.3 million contracts.

Key highlights:

- Broad-based growth in participation in securities: SDAV increased 8% month-on-month (m-o-m) on the back of broad-based growth across all stock segments, supported by strong interest from both institutions and retail investors. Retail was particularly active buying the dips, with participation 11% m-o-m higher in small- and mid-cap stocks and up 22% m-o-m in real-estate investment trusts (REIT).

- STI continues to outperform: The Straits Times Index (STI) extended its rally and notched successive records in August, advancing 35% y-o-y to a month-end high of 5,755.36 and outperforming the rest of ASEAN on a year-to-date basis. Turnover in STI constituents gained 44% y-o-y to S$1.5 billion, driven by stronger participation from both institutional and retail investors. STI exchange-traded funds (ETF) recorded an 18th consecutive month of net inflows, totaling S$1.6 billion and lifting assets-under-management to S$5.8 billion.

- Cash market momentum lifts derivatives activity: Coordinated asset allocations by fund managers during the August peak of earnings season drove activity in equity futures. SGX Straits Times Index Futures chalked up DAV growth of more than two times m-o-m during the month, with open interest (OI) rising to a record S$49.5 million notional on 28 August. Similarly, SGX MSCI Singapore Index Futures OI climbed to S$11.8 billion notional at month-end, while DAV rose to S$2.98 billion notional - each at an all-time high.

- Growing GIFT participation: OI in GIFT Nifty futures and options gained 15.1% y-o-y in August to 327,889 lots, or a notional US$15.8 billion, while total monthly volume increased 3.8% y-o-y to 1.87 million contracts. August also marked a second consecutive month of positive foreign inflows into Indian equities.

- Sustained capital raising: SGX Stock Exchange on 5 August welcomed All-Link Air & Sea Limited to its Mainboard. Headquartered in Singapore, the company offers cross-border freight-forwarding services across ASEAN markets. During the month, CNMC Goldmine moved its listing to Mainboard from Catalist, marking the sixth transfer to the Mainboard so far in 2026. Secondary fundraising totalled S$3.57 billion over the first eight months of 2026, reinforcing the role of public equity markets in supporting listed companies beyond the IPO stage.

- DAV expands across listed FX derivatives: Dollar weakness drove portfolio hedging in FX futures, with total traded volume increasing 47% y-o-y in August to 8.1 million contracts. DAV of SGX USD/CNH FX Futures - the world's most international renminbi futures - jumped 43% y-o-y to a notional US$19.7 billion as the RMB strengthened. DAV of SGX INR/USD FX Futures surged 38% y-o-y to US$3.2 billion notional, while DAV of SGX KRW/USD FX Futures almost doubled y-o-y to US$664.8 million notional.

- Petrochemicals among commodities winners: SGX Commodities cleared the equivalent of 4.5 million metric tonnes of petrochemicals in August, bringing volume over the first eight months of 2026 to about 40 million tons - close to the full-year tally for 2025. There were volume gains across other commodity derivatives during the month, with SGX SICOM Rubber Futures and Options rising 65% y-o-y to 337,588 contracts and forward freight agreement (FFA) volume climbing 18% y-o-y to 221,956 contracts.
