During Mr John Arthur's time as an executive at Westpac Banking Corporation (Westpac) ending September 2016 Westpac as a major Australian Bank was subject to the oversight and supervision of a range of regulators under a range of statutes and regulations. From time to time disagreements and disputes occurred between Westpac and regulators over Westpac's compliance with its statutory and regulatory obligations. While efforts were made to resolve disagreements and disputes by mutual agreement, sometimes this was not possible and litigation ensued. At all times appropriate market disclosures (including of any settlements, fines or penalties) were made by Westpac as required by law.
